That’s right. I could not turn in my paper for my religious studies class. It all started this morning after I woke up around 9AM. I took a nice hot shower, at breakfast (coffee), and then headed over to my notebook computer to type my paper. All of the sudden, I realized something… I did not bring my book.
The assignment was to write a ten page paper on Stephen Jay Gould’s book The Rocks of Ages. I didn’t panic just yet. I went ahead and called the bookstore in Brownsville and asked if they had the book. They said no. I told myself that it was going to be okay because there just had to be a copy of this book somewhere in the Rio Grande Valley. Kris called every single library and bookstore in the RGV, and the only library that had the book was in Edinburg and the city is an hour away from where we live. I knew, that even if we drove over there, I would not manage to type the six more pages it would take to write the paper by 5PM. By the time we found out the one copy was in Edinberg, it was already 2PM.
Kris, Shaq, and I got into the car and started on the drive over to Edinberg. Within 3 minutes, I told Shaq and Kris, "There’s no way I’ll be able to finish this paper today." The book I have back in the dorm in Houston had all the highlighted areas I needed and I would have been able to type the six pages today, but because I didn’t have my book, it was an impossibility.
I made a u-turn and headed back home.
I cried my head off for about an hour shitting bricks asking myself what the hell I’m supposed to do. I emailed my professor and begged him for an extension. I mean, on my midterm I got a 95, and I knew that this paper would have been no problem for me if I had just brought the book with me here to Browsville. I have not received an email back from the professor, but I am hoping that he will grant me an extension, otherwise, my A+ average will turn into a C- by the end of the semester.
After all that, I realized that there was nothing else I could do but wait. I went ahead and started Lord of the Rings, The Third Age for the PS2 with my little brother Shaquille.
There is some good news though. Kris said, "Babe, isn’t Mitchell’s TA James?" I said, "Um, he just might be". People… James is a friend of mine. He’s not someone I talk on the phone with or anything, but I had a class with him at school two semesters ago and we had a real good time in the class. If Kris is right, which I believe he is, James (who is actually grading the papers) should be able to give me an extension. I am praying it is him. He always talks to Dr. Mitchell, and Kris told me that one time he asked him if he worked, and James said, "Yeah, I work for one of the Professors here at the Bruce Religion Center"…. but there is only ONE professor at the Bruce Religion center… and that’s Dr. Mitchell.
I also suspect this could be true because two weeks ago, I had forgotten to do a quiz for my class online. All of the sudden the other day, it was available to me. I never asked the TA for an extra link to it. I am thinking that James might be keeping the whole Dr. Mitchell TA job on the DL.
We’ll see what happends. In the meantime, I’ll be eating Turkey, stuffing, watching movies, playing on the PS2, and writing my other paper for my music class all week. If something else dramatic comes up, I’ll let you know about it, *promise*. LOL.
