This upcoming Saturday (April 2nd), I’ll be 26 years old. Holy smokes! I’m getting to be an old woman! I want to go to Chillis on my birthday (I am addicted to Presidente Margaritas) and I want to go out to the movies with Kris, but I have no idea what movie I want to see yet. I mean, I’ve got some ideas, but I haven’t made up my mind yet. I was thinking it would kinda be funny if Kris and I saw that movie Guess Who, because Kris and I are interracially married, but you know, I heard it wasn’t really that funny.

I’m more of a sci-fi/horror geek, and would rather watching something gross or really scary…creepy…muhahahah! (Crappy rendition of Dracula, but oh well, I can say I tried…and isn’t that what matters?) I sware, saying stuff like that will scare pff my readers (note to self).

Back to what I might watch. I might watch The Ring Two or perhaps Sin City. I heard Sin City was going to be full of action and a lil’ bit of fantasy. Hey, what can I say, comic book movies are pretty freakn’ kewl. I especially liked Constantine. I never read the comic book, but I don’t think that would have ruined it for me. I love Anne Rice, and neither Interview with a Vampire or Queen of the Damned was dissapointing to me really. I mean, Queen of the Damned was a little dissapointing, but I wouldn’t expect the movie as detailed as the book. How can a movie writer squeeze a three inch book into a two hour movie? I don’t think anyone can do that!

Let’s see, as far as personal stuff is conerned, Kris won’t get paid until next weekend, which really bites the dust… THANK GOD FOR MOMS! I know my mother will never read this, but “thanks for giving me a $100 bucks on my b-day ma”. What can I say other than, mom’s are awesome (sometimes…hehehe)

This weekend, I applied for a volunteer job at a website called Thought Mechanics, and I got accepted! If you are ever interested in reading articles from an independent-progressive writer (that’s me), I encourage you to visit Thought Mechanics.

I don’t get paid for what I do, but I get something better. There are 35,000 unique visitors per month at this site because the owner, Theron Parlin, creates Word Press themes. In fact, the theme I am using currently was essentially designed by him. All I did was change the colors, background images, and content.

With 35,000 users reading this site every month, I will get plenty of comments from people who are interested in those things which I love to write about such as race relations, multiculturalism, and feminism. Please make sure to check out my first article!

Isn’t it funny how we Christians celebrate Easter bunnies and Easter eggs, even though all those elements are so blatantly pagan. Alas, are we just pawns to pagans? Heh. I doubt it, but getting back to faith here… this upcoming Sunday, Kris and I, along with many other Christians, will celebrate Jesus Christ’s ascension to heaven. For our faith, this signifies the last time we would ever see God the Father on earth. It also reminds us that heaven is real and that one day, we will be there too.

I find it interesting how much anime is fascinated by our faith. I had finished watching the Serial Experiments: Lain, and it basically mimicked several religions themes, but is essence, focused primarily on Christ and his authority. In it, Lain was God, but also a human being, like Jesus.

There are so many people who believe that if there is a God, it would be impossible for this diety to be a normal human being living in our world. To those who would believe in an impersonal God, I say this: with God, anything is possible.

After a very long time, our old friend John finally apologized. Just when I thought that there would be nothing to blog about today, John called me. I nearly fell off my chair, because no one ever calls us. As I’ve said before, we just don’t have that many friends here in Houston; that’s another story.

A while back, our friend John had basically betrayed me. He totally hurt my feelings. There are some of you who have been reading this blog that know what I am referring to, but for others who do not, please read the above links so you can catch up.

Anyway, he called me and said, “April, I just wanted to tell you that I was wrong, and that I miss you guys very much”. I told him, “Well John, what you did was wrong, and I knew that if you really cared for me, then you would call me and apologize, but if not, then I would always know that you were never really my friend”. I told him that it took a lot of courage to apologize to me, and that somewhat signifies that he is serious about our relationship, and that he does not want it to end.

At least now we have one more friend in Houston who we are close too, yet again. So for now, Kris and I have a nice happy ending (or so it seems).

I’ve been watching this tripped out sci-fi X-Files-ish show called the “Lain Experiments”. Imagine a combination of X-files and Matrix all wrapped into one, yep, that’s what it is.

Not much to write about lately. Just either reading for my classes, doing homework, hanging around with the Lounge Lizards, or reading blogs. Gotta a lotta catching up to do.

I’ve just about had enough of reading about how African-American women, no matter what the treatment, are worse off than Cacausian women when dealing with diseases even if they are treated…somehow, they are worse off! (How would that work for someone like me who is both black and white?) Read and listen for yourself: Endometrial Cancer Worse in African-American Women and Breast Cancer Differences in African-American Women.

Let’s get some things straight. For one, where is the scientific basis for all of this? One of the first things I learned in college is that everyone is from Africa. We all have some “black” in us, no matter what anyone would like to think about their culture. Sure everyone has a particular “culture” per se, but genetically, race plays no part in reactions towards medical treatments. I mean, come on now. I admit that diseases such as diabetes are more prevalent in African Americans and Hispanics in our country, but why do they have to go all out and say that no matter what the treatment, black women are worse off? That’s like saying that medicine doesn’t work for black women.

As I’ve said before, this isn’t the first time I’ve read about race-based medicine. It’s absolutely appalling if you ask me. I read an excellent article a while back that I blogged on November 16th. And here it is:

After reading this entry, it made me think about how many women do not know about a product out there that is really good. Instead of using tampons or pads, use Instead. Instead is this really awesome product I started using about three or so years ago, because it lasts for 12 hours! That’s right, even on your heaviest period, and I mean heaviest, it lasts 12 hours, trust me on this.

I think tampons and pads are the most disgusting things. I don’t even need to get into the details of it, but you ladies and some gentlemen know what I am talking about.

In other news, I just finished filling out all my paper to get into the graduate school of social work here at UH, and I’m pretty excited. I have always wanted to help people, and if I get in, I can (and the best part is that I get paid to do it). The paper work is due on March 31st, and I’ll be turning it in tomorrow. I have no idea of when I’ll know if I’m accepted, but hopefully it will be some time before I go absolutely bonkers. If I had my way, some time before July would be nice. Who knows?! I’ll definately keep you posted though.

I’m so very sad. Today, right before Kris and I left to go back up to Houston, I saw Miss Baby (the oldest of our cats back home) on the ground and it looked like she was going to die (she has feline lukemia). I freaked out and ran to my mother and was crying and said, “Mom, I think Miss Baby is dying”. Mom came out on the porch, inspected her, and she looked up at me and said, “Yes, she is passing away.” I cried even harder. Mom tranquilized her so she couldn’t feel any pain (my mother is an animal control officer and is also on standby right now; this means that she is “on call”). She told Kris and I, “She is dying and I tranquilized her so she couldn’t feel a thing while she passes away.”

Miss Baby wasn’t dead yet when we left for Houston, but mom said that tomorrow if she has not passed, that she will put her down to end her misery. Poor little kitty. What’s worse, is that my little brother is staying with another family while my mother is on standby and has no clue that she is dying. My brother’s cat Screwball died just a week and a half ago, and now this?

We love you Miss Baby. May you find peace in heaven at last.

Update: Mom called when we got home and she said Miss Baby died right after we left to go back up to Houston.

Every time that I visit my mother and brother here in Brownsville, I wish I didn’t have to go back up to Houston. There is a incomprehensible warmth that I feel when I am home with my family. I feel a part of something, instead of a stranger in a strange place. After all, a sense of belonging is something that most people want in their lives. I’ve never really fit into any social group my whole life, nor will I ever; I am entirely too different for that.

I’ve tried to fit in, really I do, but things just don’t go my way. Sure, I get along with people, and people like me back, but the only place I’ve ever fit in is home with my family and on the internet. Heck, I even met my husband on the internet for crying out loud. Most “normal” people would say that I’m crazy for thinking such things, but when you grow up in a place where you really don’t belong, and everywhere you go people stare at you because you are different, the internet can be quite refreshing. Online, I am not judged by the way my hair looks or with how much I intimidate people when I speak, in fact, I am cherished and listened to without discrimination. It’s a wonderful feeling.

I’ve been thinking a little bit about Kris’s mother, and how much she hurt him throughout his life. Kris grew up with a mother that had no faith in him whatsoever. It’s quite sad really. I look into Kris’s eyes sometimes, and I can just tell by the expression on his face that he is depressed and thinking about how cruel his mother was to him while he was growing up. When I first met her I was furious. The first time she saw me, she said, “Who’s the black girl at the door?” and ran away and never bothered to open the door. Yeah, and she thought my little brother was my son. Stupid, mean, cold-hearted bitch. She was and still is extremely pessimistic and presumptuous. Kris and I stopped talking to her in December because we realized that after almost five years, the woman will never respect our marriage. We know that if we ever have kids, she will never love them, because she just doesn’t love us.

It sounds highly unlikely for those of you who have loving parents. I had a loving family too, but I do know what it means to have a unworthy parent. I never knew my father my whole life, and a couple of years ago, I finally got to meet him. He was the jerk my mother always told me he was, but when I grew up, I never believed my mom because I just didn’t want to believe that my father did not love me. The cold hard reality hit me like a ton of bricks, but at least I never grew any sort of relationship with him. Kris on the other hand, grew up with an un-loving mother, and so, his life growing up was pretty much like mine in a way. He had one parent that truly loved him with all his heart, and that was his father.

I’ll have to continue this another time, because right now I’m getting ready to read some more of Anne Rice’s “Blood Canticle”. See you in cyber space.

Kris and I had a very calm and relaxing Anniversary. And if you wanna know, that’s exactly what I would want it to be, because I try to stay away from too much drama, lol. I woke up this morning, and Kris looked at me all sweet and said, “Happy Anniversary babe”. That wasn’t the last time he said it. He said that a million times all day, heh-heh. Of course, you all can guess what he wanted in the morning (fat chance, because I just wasn’t in the mood, tee-hee). Hey, I don’t need sexual pressure, if you know what I mean. Any woman can tell you that men have this thing in them; they are entirely different creatures than we are. He’s twenty-nine years old, and he still wants some every other minute. Hate to say it, but ugh, that’s just not going to happen if I want a bladder. Too much information? I thought so.

I went ahead and made three lattes with my espresso machine, like I’ve been doing since I’ve been home in Brownsville. Shaq digs lattes like you wouldn’t believe, and my mother surprisingly enough, is really proud that I have managed to save money by making them on my own. That’s one of the rare times that my mother actually is proud of me. Yeah, she’s one of those parents that you just can’t do enough of to make them proud of you. It’s just “never enough”, because she always wants more of me.

Back to our Anniversary (see how that drama just took over just now?). Ma took us our to Lin’s Chinese Buffet Restaurant, and it was absolutely delicious. But before all that happened, Kris listened to Shaq do his Master Reader stuff, and Shaq is slowly but surely getting better at reading. He barely started it the other day because the cd came all the way from Canada and it took quite a long time for it to get here to Texas. I’ll have to let you know how that goes.

Well, it’s 2:19 a.m. and in a way, it’s still our anniversary, so I’m gonna go ahead and take a nice hot shower and seduce the hubby into bed, heh. Didn’t I just say I wanted a bladder? Oh well. I’m a slave to him sometimes, or rather, he’s my slave, heh. MUHAHAHAHAH!!!

Oh yeah, and a HAPPY ST. PATTY’S to everyone. I’m part Irish, lol, and proud of it.
