Blade: Trinity (2004)

My rating: 2 out of 5

This movie was all right. I say “all right” because it just did not have the spark of Blade I or Blade II. When the movie came out in 2004, a lot of people had told me that it was not all that; they were right. I guess what basically ruined the movie for me was the fact that Blade wasn’t alone any more, but had two other people there to “help” him. I admit, the guy was good for his role as the comic relief, but all in all, they did not really do much for Blade. There were more scenes of the two sidekicks than there were of Blade. I’m a Blade fan, not a “sidekick” fan.

The ending of the movie blowed, i.e. sucked. The writers wroked on convincing you into thinking that this Drake (Dracula) villan was just going to have a hell of a fight with Blade, but he didn’t. Blade took him out in no time flat. The fight scene at the end just wasn’t very satisfying at all.

Meeting Cornel West

On this beautiful day, I met one of the most prolific thinkers of our century, Cornel West. He is someone I thought I would never meet. Listening to him speak on our campus inspired me and also made me feel more confident and assured that social work is definately for me.

If you don’t know who he is, please make sure to look him up on google some time. Among his best books are “Race Matters” and “Democracy Matters”.

I was giving some advice to a friend of mine the other day about closure. What do I mean by closure? Well, I’m referring to when a person is in a relationship and (s)he has been dumped and the person who dumps them fails to give them closure; that is, they do not tell them what they felt was wrong about the relationship and why they had to break up.

Sad to say, this is an all too common immature way to deal with a relationship; after all, the person who got dumped deserves to know the reason why they were rejected. The bottom line, is that it is the right thing to do. It is the most human and decent thing to do out of respect.

More often than not, people who are “dumpers” can’t handle a relationship due to their own insecurities, and as a result, the person being dumped feels imcomplete and is left to ponder whether it was something they did to “ruin” the relationship.

What is important to remember, if you are in this situation, is that if you are the one who got dumped, then there is nothing wrong with you…there is something wrong with the person who dumped you. After all, as far as you were concerned, everything was going well, but then all of the sudden…the person “up and leaves you” for some reason that they decided not to divulge.

The way in which you deal with this situation is to confront the “dumper” and say:

You: “I need closure in this relationship for my own well being.”

The Dumper: “What do you mean closure?”

You: “Well, I had no problem with the relationship the way it was, but there was obviously something something that was troubling you. I realize that it’s over, and I respect your decision, but for my own sanity, I need to know what in your heart troubled you…”

There are entirely too many relationships out there that are not resolved, and there is a general lack of respect for the other person’s feelings. If you are a “dumper”, in order to avoid a difficult break-up, please, for Pete’s sake, give the person you dumped closure.

Blood Canticle (The Vampire Chronicles)

Last night, before my crying session, I forgot to blog about the book I finished reading, and as you can see, it’s called “Blood Canticle” by Anne Rice. I’ve been reading all of Rice’s novels since I was a senior in high school, and I thoroughly enjoy them, like always. This book wasn’t as good as say Blackwood Farm, but it was pretty good. If you like soap operas (se llama novelas, en espanol), then you will love these novels.

This particular story was actually a continuation from the last Rice novel I read entitled Blackwood Farm. If you are interested in reading Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, then I would suggest you start from the beginning and read one after another in sequential order.

Last night I totally cried my head off before I went to sleep, because I miss my grandparents and they are dead. Thinking of my mother dead also scared me, because she won’t stop smoking. Thinking of my brother scared me too, because he is twelve years old and he’s getting older by the minute and soon he won’t be my little man any more. He will be a grown-up. Sheesh.

Last night, I realized why I can’t get passed my grandparents death. Time is obviously a factor, because time heals all. The main factor, however, is that I am empty inside. Right now, I feel as if there is no one I can trust. I could trust my grandparents to be there for me, but right now there’s no one. I looked at Kris and told him that I can’t completely trust him to be there for me. I told him that normally, if someone you love dies, you can always replace that need with your spouse. It’s what my grandparents did when their parents died, and it’s the same thing that happends in a lot of marriages.

Kris cried too, because he felt so bad that I could not trust him. I told him that his heart has to change if he wants to change; it’s as simple as that. Understand too, as I type this, that this is very personal information. I know, I’m a fool for exposing my current situation right now, but I am hoping that with this recount, that you are learning from reading what I have given you.

Kris told me last night that he never has been able to get over his father’s death completely. He was angry at his father for dying on him at a young age of 20 (his father was 70). I mean, Kris shouldn’t be angry with his father, but it’s just a reaction that he had. He feels the same way about a lot of things. Kris won’t open up because he feel responsible for the death of his father, which is really sad. Not only is it sad, but I told him that it is a waste of time, because I am sure that his father would never want him to withhold his love for me. Kris realizes this, but he thinks that he can change by “doing” things, as opposed to changing his heart about the whole situation. For some reason, his natural reaction is to be selfish with his feelings, that is, to get defensive and hide whatever it is that bothers him.

One of the things I learned in school, when I was being racially oppressed, was to let it out. I didn’t pretend something didn’t bother me. I’ve got the gift of expression, and it’s always saved me. I feel that it is a gift that God has given me out of his grace, period. I am praying that God will help Kris heal his heart.

Collateral (2004)

My rating: 4 out of 5

This movie had me talking to Jamie Foxx the entire time. I couldn’t help it; this was an excellent suspense movie. The only reason I don’t give it five stars is because the ending is not very good. Go rent this movie soon if you haven’t already done so.

What is up with me watching all these movies lately, huh? Well, I just saw this movie, and it was breaktaking. No doubt about it, a million thumbs up says Kris & April. I loved the way that Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson play back and forth with falling in love. They are both so confused about the whole situation, and it’s funny, because I think a lot of people are like that. A lot of people with awesome careers just haven’t had the chance to experience what it’s like to fall in love. This movie is a must see.

For those that love horror and sixth sense-ish type o’ movies, this is absolutely fulfilling! I don’t really want to tell you the premise, but let me assure you that it’s a great flick. It’s quite a mindbender, and will have you second guessing yourself the entire time! One doesn’t know whether something is real or not. I had no idea this movie came out in 2004, whoa! Glad I saw it. You should too!!
