I lied. I said I’d post her pictures on Sunday, but I can’t help it, I must post them today. First off, let me tell you that overall, she is quite healthy, except that she has a broken leg and an injured leg. The people who dropped her off a couple of days ago got rid of her because she was not “perfect”, but the whole reason it happened was because their kids played with her too rough and landed on her legs and shoulder and didn’t want to spend the money to have it fixed.

The hardest part right now, is training her to use ~~a litterbox with shredded paper~~ a puppy pad in a portable cage. She already poo’d on my bed so fast I couldn’t keep up, and pee’d on the bed making a cute little smiley face. (Ah yes, the wonder of dogs…what in the world was I thinking?!) I read some tutorials online, and found out that I’m going to have to take her to her ~~litterbox~~ puppy cage with her puppy pad every morning and sit there until she does her business, after every time she eats and wait there (until she does her bussiness), every thirty minutes just so she can get used to the ~~litterbox~~ portable cage and puppy pad, etc. According to what I read, it is going to take about ~~4-6 months~~ 4 weeks to train her. Right now, she is between 2 and a half to 3 months old. I thank God this semester I only have three classes! Wheew! She already pee’d on the bed and poo’d on the bed once. (Argh) Must watch her like a hawk. Patience and persistence are the keys to winning this battle. Wish us luck!

Mom called and left a messege while she was on duty. She said, “April, there is a siamese here at the shelter you might want to check out and see. Maybe you want to adopt it, and so, just let me know and I’ll adopt her for you”. I was thinking, “Well, I already have two cats, but it couldn’t hurt to check her out”. So I went to the shelter, and looked around in the cat area for a bit, and also saw the siamese. The siamese was not all that impressive, but as I was walking past the puppy room (directly across from the cat room) and I saw what I thought was a doberman puppy. I thought to myself, “How adorable. Such beautiful colors”. I happen to love the colors of dobermans. Anyhow, I figured that I should go and say hi to the little fella. Well, to much my surprise, it was actually a chihuahua puppy that had the same coloring as a doberman (black and brown). (More …)

Mom brought home Aphrodite at the end of May, and since then, she has blossomed to a beautiful healthy kitten. When mom first got her, she was dehydrated and malnourished.

(May 28, 2005) My mom is an animal control officer and tends to want to keep the animals she saves from the streets. Yesterday, she drove home for her lunch break and said, “April, I’ve got a new job for you and Shaq”, and I’m thinkin’ “Oh great, another baby animal…”. I asked her, “What is it this time… a bird?” She opened up the back of her animal control truck where there are several little cubby holes with doors where she puts the animals, and said, “No, it’s a little kitten”.

I was completely flabbergasted! Mom said, “They told me to put her to sleep because she was blind, but there is nothing wrong with her, and I didn’t have the heart to do it… she’s too much of a sweetheart”. Mom couldn’t be more right.

Another addition to the family is Sammy. As promised, here is a picture of that handsome little devil. Kris brought him home last Friday, and since then, mom has fallen head-over-heals in love with him. Sammy has a very laid back personality and just sits there, but he’s not shy. Sammy is part siamese, and you know what that means: talking, talking, and more talking! Our family loves cats that talk (meows) a lot, because we enjoy interacting with them on this level, and also meow back to them or ask them “are you hungry? want some hungry?” heh. The only problem, is that when I’m doing crunches in the living room, Aphrodite messes with my fro. Shaq trained her to go after his fro, and now she goes after my fro too. Little sneaky-sneaky.

Okay, this has got to be the best couple of days I’ve ever had as a blogger. It makes me wonder, are these the perks of blogging for a little over a year? The other day, I chatted with Kugan on Trillian for about an hour and a half! We talked about life, politics, etc. Then today, I did something that I know is going to be expensive on the phone bill (around sixty dollars)…but ah, what the hell? I called up Anna in the Netherlands! We chatted about personal relationships with our men, of course. Anna has the most lovely voice; she is such a special lady. And finally, right when I’m thinking that things couldn’t get any better, John posted his first podcast and I got to listen to him for the first time!! ((faint))

I don’t know about you, but having online friends is great. I really don’t have too many real friends I can get to know, because honestly, I just don’t have the time. I mean, during the summer I do, but during the school year, I don’t have the time to be socializing and getting into all sorts of drama. Having blogger friends is a great way to get to know a person, without the drama. There is a certain level of comfort that one has in typing down what you feel, but not feeling judged while doing it. At the same time, when the opportunity arises when one can meet another blogger in person, chat with them on instant messenger, or call them on the phone, it feels great. There is nothing like it.

After Kris cashed his eighty-dollar check on Saturday, I thought it would be a good idea to check up on Craig (Kris’s brother). About a couple of weeks ago, we made a hard decision in not speaking to him or seeing him until he was ready to change for the better. If you do not know the whole story, then please read a quote from a previous entry:

(June 25, 2005) Kris and I had a talk with his brother Craig. It’s a long story, but we feel that our decision to not see him for a while would be a good idea. Craig is thirty-two years old and has a lot of problems both emotionally and education-wise. I know it seems harsh, but we’ve tried to help him in the past, and he has refused it. Him refusing to let us help him only makes it harder for us, because we care too much to let him waste away. We told him to give us a call when he wants us to help him.

Yesterday, all that changed. When we went to his house (he lives with his mother), we invited him to start working with Kris (Kris is making money by building a house for a church member) and he said yes. Of course, I told him that he could not have the job unless every day he worked, he would use the Hooked on Phonics: Master Reader cd set that I bought for Shaquille to help him with his reading. At first, he had second thoughts, but once he realized that in the end, being tutored in reading would highly benefit him, he conceded. I knew that if Craig knew what was good for him, he would make the right choice. I knew it was just a matter of time.

Premise: A man (Ewan McGregor) goes on the run after he discovers that he is actually a harvested being, and is being kept along with others in a utopian facility.

The beginning of the movie was intriguing, the middle of the movie was nothing but chasing and more chasing scenes, and the end was fairly decent. The acting was pretty good, but the story was a little lame because it was not deep enough. I would only rent this movie if I could, but since I’ve seen it already, I’d recommend saving your hard earned cash and not see it in the theatres. Instead of this movie, you should go see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Hurricane Emily was not really all that bad. There was a lot of wind (clocked between 30-40 miles per hour) and rain, but other than that, that was all there was to it. We had a blast at the Gomez’s house, I mean, what more could one want? We had plenty of food, company, cable t.v., and games to play on the PS2, and so, we were pretty much sitting back and relaxing while the winds and rain went away. I will admit, I did work out in their living room (it was not all fun and games, heh).

We left the Gomez’s house, and returned to our mobile homes in the country to see dozens of palm branches and thousands of Austrailian pine needles on the ground to pick up. As soon as we got home, we immediately started the cleaning process outside and will not be done for a couple of days. In the meantime, when I’m not working outside, I’ll be exercising or playing either Primal or Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II with Kris on our PS2.

Hurricane Emily is fast approaching (the red dot is where we live), and hopefully, it shouldn’t be too bad. I’ve gone through three hurricanes (Allen, Gilbert, and Bret) since I’ve been alive. The hurricane I remember the most was in 1988: Hurricane Gilbert.

During hurricane Gilbert, we stayed in a motel, because of the fact that the least safest place during a hurricane is a mobile home. If a tornado hit at our house, then it would snap our mobile home like a toothpick. Speaking of snapping, when our family was in the motel, a small tornado touched down right in front of our room. I’ll never forget it! The lights started flickering off and on, and then my mom looked outisde, somehow knew what was going on, and said “April! Hide underneath the bed now!!”. I did so, of course, and then I looked up because I was curious. The wind was howling and palm trees started snapping, and then all of the sudden, the window in our room cracked… and then it was all over. After my mom said it was safe, I looked outside, and there were palm trees, glass, and pieces of wood all over throughout the courtyard.

This time, instead of going to a motel, we will be going to the Gomez’s house. Unfortunately, mom will have to be in a motel in Brownsville, because she is an animal control officer (dog catcher) and whenever people are having an animal emergency, my mom along with her colleagues have to be available at work. The hurricane is supposed to hit Tuesday evening.
