Since last Wednesday, it’s been a nice little vacation for Kris and I, but for many Houstonians it’s been a living nightmare getting back to Houston. Listen to some of my mild humor and more on this podcast.

This movie was not as good as I or the critics anticipated. I do not condone Jodie Foster’s acting by no means, because she rocked in this movie, but this flick was a bit too predictable. The trailer revealed one of the most important parts of the movie, and that really leaves very little room for a sense of mystery.

I was completely impressed with the premier of Commander in Chief, starring Geena Davis and Donald Sutherland. I don’t know how many of you saw the premier, but I’ve been waiting anxiously my whole life to see a woman in the oval office, even if it’s just acting. -

A nice cross in between sci-fi and psycho-thrillers. In addition to it being an excellent sci-fi flick, it had a constant air of mystery that can leave one guessing throughout the entire show, I know I did. Dreamcatcher has a mediocre amount of gore, i.e. “light blood”, heh. Great movie for anyone who enjoys sci-fi.

We are safe, thank goodness. As I write this entry, I am at a local library right now so that I could update everyone on our status. If you have been following the news for the past couple of days, you will have noticed that Rita did not hit Houston head on, thank goodness! Rita went past us by about one hundred miles or so.
Since this past Wednesday, we have been in a suburb town of Austin called Round Rock. I took several pictures of where I’m staying, but I cannot upload them in the library, shoot. I’ve been reading a little bit for my two classes, watching some movies, and having fun with Val (my mom’s best friend) and her kids. Val’s oldest kid is 18 and her youngest is three; she has a total of five children.
I am probably going to leave tomorrow for Houston, but I am not too sure. I might take off and visit my mom in Brownsville because the University of Houston does not officially open back up again until this Thursday, isn’t that a trip? Kris and I are so lucky! Not only did Rita not hit our city, but we get a free vacation!
Thanks for all the love and support you all ((hugs)). I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw twenty comments on the last entry I wrote. I have a lot of people that care about us, and for that, that makes my day. I’ll be updating again as soon as I can get back on the internet, but it should not be any longer than two or three days. Until then!
Update as of 9/26: We woke up early this morning and headed out for Houston. We took an alternate route that Val provided for us, and it only took us three hours to get back home. Any access I get on the internet is via wi-fi on campus, and for this, I am sitting out here in the hot sun reading the news and blog entries that I have missed…that’s how desperate I am for the internet right now. Kris and I still haven’t gotten our internet connection yet, but hopefully, we will get it soon. If we do not end up getting a cable modem, then we will just resort to using the net on campus… it’s not so bad… we live on campus. Shoot, I need all the extra walking I can get!

I’ll make this post nice and sweet: a hurricane category 4 (possibly 5) is coming straight for Houston. We are driving to Austin Texas with my mother’s best friend and her family. Wish us safetly, and that the traffic isn’t that bad. Guess what? This hurricane will be worse than Katrina.

Like my online bud Jorge, I decided to do some spring cleaning with my blog tonight. The reason I decided to do so, is because something has really been bugging me about my “friends” list: the majority of the people who I link on my site rarely comment on my site.
There is no conceivable way that I could let this persist, because after all, there are those who are loyal to this blog, and consistently comment because either 1) they want me to comment on their site as well… which can be quite comforting or 2) genuinely care about me and are interested in my life.
With nothing holding me back tonight, I deleted a smoke-load of people on my friends list. Mind you, this does not mean that I won’t be reading other sites that are not on this list, but I refuse to give advertisement credit to those who rarely comment on my site.
My goal, thus far, is to find bloggers online who love to comment as much as I do. If you read my “about” section, I say this:
The idea of communicating to hundreds of people a day about one’s own personal opinions or commentary is simply fascinating. The most interesting part of the whole scheme, to me, is the comment system. Getting comments from people all around the world creates a unique learning environment for both the writer and the reader
I would defeat the fun out of blogging if I read people’s blogs that do not comment on my site… it’s a give and give situation… not a “take” and “take” drama, ya feel me? So to those on my friends list… consider yourselves honored… or rather, I’m honored to have had you all comment on my site so often and be so loyal to my site, and as you have noticed, I am loyal to yours as well. Check this, here are my top five commentors since I’ve created this blog in the WordPress format.
Top 5 commentors as of 9/19/05
1. Anna (80 comments)
2. Jessica (68 comments)
3. Logtar (61 comments)
4. Miss Aida (42 comments)
5. Chele (41 comments)Sidenote: I also updated my about section, in case you might want to check it out.

Great flick for those who like odd movies. The other day, Kris and I bought this movie on DVD at Wal-Mart, and we enjoyed it a lot. The reason we liked it, was because we tend to like all types of humor such as the dry humor in this movie. When I mean dry, I mean a dry martini kind of dry humor, otherwise known as deadpad with a sci-fi twist. My fave character was the robot played by Alan Rickman.

It just so happens that once every couple of weeks, ever since Kris and I have been married, we go somewhere out to eat or to shop for items, and the cashier for some reason thinks that we are not “together”. For example, Kris and I went to Starbucks yesterday, and even though we were being affectionate to each other, talked to each other, hell… held hands together, the cashier for some reason assumed we were not a couple… now one must wonder what the cause of all this is.
Well, here’s the deal: Kris and I, in case you haven’t figured out, are an interracial couple. Of course, I don’t even believe in “race” (because technically… the only two races of humans we’ve had so far are homosapiens and Neandertals), but culturally, it does exist. Kris is white and I am biracial (black & white), but to most people, I am simply “black”. Because of the fact that the majority of people in the United States do not have marital relations outside of their race, it is quite understandable that most people cannot help, but assume that a black woman and a white man are just “friends” and nothing more. Most of the time this is the case, but Kris and I, like the growing minorities of us who are involved in an interracial marriage (or relationship) are the exception to what U.S. society would assume is the norm. The Starbucks incident is only one of the several dozens of times that people have assumed in one way or another that we had no affiliation to one another. Cashiers (and all people alike in the U.S.) should not make this assumption, because for those of us who are involved in an interracial relationship, is can be quite offensive.
Sidenote: no one comments on my movie reviews… which is strange. Does no one know that I post movie reviews at the bottom of my blog? Hmph.
