Tomorrow afternoon at 2:30, I’ll be hosting my first grassroots campaign effort to help Barack Obama get elected as our president. If you visit barackobama.com, and look up the group “University of Houston Students and Alumni for Barack Obama”, I am the administrator. 20 people have signed up to come, so hopefully, at least half will show. It’s going to be very exciting, and I’ll make sure to blog about it tomorrow after the event (if I remember, lol).
Earlier today I went to the UH College of Social Work Marketplace Agency Meeting. It’s more than just a “meeting” though. Let me rewind a big before I get to what it’s was all about. As you know, I have an internship right now with CPS, which is my first field practice class. I finish up my CPS internship once I finish 450 hours of it (at 16 hours per week). 450 hours accounts for both field practice I and II. After that, I go into field practice III and IV. Now here’s the thing about fields III and IV — I am able to choose my internship! That’s RIGHT. Oh, and just so I don’t confuse anyone… field practice I and II are combined into one internship location. This means that for III and IV, it is also combined into one internship location.
So back to the Marketplace thing… Marketplace is where I set up interviews with 3-4 agencies so that I can go there, see what it’s like, and then choose which ones I like in order of preference. There is a 90% chance I will get what I want for field III and IV. So here’s the places I signed up for:
2. Houston Area Women’s Center
4. FUUSA (Families Under Urban and Social Attack).
To learn more about them, just click on the links above. I’ll let everyone know what internship I get some time in May. Which one do you think I should go with? My favorite is the Women’s Initiative, because it’s got all the women who have won Nobel Peace Prizes.
